The Secret of Our Success
The EOS Estate Vineyards are located in the Paso Robles
Appellation, in Paso Robles, California. Located midway between
Los Angeles and San Francisco, and approximately 15 miles
inland from the Pacific Ocean, Paso Robles is a significant
part of the noteworthy Central Coast wine growing region.
Currently we have close to 700 acres planted, with more plantings
planned over the next several years.
There are two primary soil groups in the EOS Estate Vineyards,
each typical of those identified on terraces. The first is the
Arbuckle-Positas-San Ysidro group, which is characterized by
very deep, nearly level to hilly, moderately well drained and
well drained fine sandy loams, coarse loams, and loams. The second
group is the Nacimiento-Ayar group. Characterized by moderately
deep, strongly sloping to steep, well drained silty clay loams
and silty clay.
The weather in the region is excellent for growing winegrapes.
The first rains arrive in late October to early November, with
the heavy rains falling in February or March. The winter temperatures
tend to stay at or above freezing, and summer temperatures can
climb into the one-hundred and ten degree zone. Although it gets
extremely hot, the nights in the summer months cool by as much
as a fifty degree margin. This is due to the marine layer and
cool ocean breeze that moves across the area following sunset.
Our vineyard planting philosophy is unique in that, prior
to planting, all rows are trenched with a back-hoe to 5 feet
deep and 4 feet wide. By turning the soil to this depth, older
soil from the hard pan is brought up to nourish young plants,
and softer, more porous topsoil is mixed with deeper layers to
boost vertical penetration by the roots.
At EOS Estate Winery we "Dawn-harvest" our premium
winegrapes to keep the fruit cool and help ensure true varietal
flavors in the finished wine.
Since a wine's flavor profile begins in the vineyard, we
take extreme care in managing our vineyards for the highest
quality yield. Each and every EOS varietal is planted in it's
own specific
vineyard block that's carefully nurtured to maximize the
flavor of that particular varietal. Within each vineyard block
we employ
the latest techniques in canopy management and crop back
vines diligently in our never ending pursuit of perfection. Quality
rather than quantity is our focus.
